A design firm called Crane Design Australia has been in business since 2006.
They have been involved in the design of numerous large scale crane designs and many of their products are used by the Australian government.
A crane design firm is not a professional crane design company, but it does have the same responsibility to make sure that the products are in line with the safety standards.
“We are always looking for ways to improve the safety and quality of the products we make, so the best way to do that is to look at a range of options, whether it is in terms of safety or quality,” Crane Design CEO Andrew Latham said.
“And in a case like this, there are a number of things that are at the top of our list that we want to ensure the product is in line.”
Crane Design Australia is a non-profit organisation.
Its members include Australian industry and government representatives, and have the authority to make decisions for the public, such as which parts of a crane should be used for the design.
“In the context of a large scale design project, the safety of the workforce and the public can only be enhanced by the ability of the public to be involved,” Latham added.
In the early days of the construction of the Perth City Docklands project, Crane Design had to consider all the options and ultimately decided to use the new City Dockland crane.
“When you think about how the crane design is done, you realise that you’re not going to use just a single crane.
You’re going to have two or three,” Laithas said.
This is the first crane design that Crane Design has done that uses the same crane design used in the Perth Docklands.
“It’s a great example of a design where there’s been so many different design options that have been applied,” he said.
While it may seem like the design was made to fit the crane, the team at Crane Design are happy to accept the limitations of the design as a whole.
“Our job is to try and make it safe and we always try and find ways to get as close as we can to safety,” Lathan said.
