China will award the $2.5 million winner of the new $2,5 million travel crane race to a private company, state media reported Wednesday.
The winning bidder will also be granted the right to fly the crane for the first time in a year and use it on tourist sites, according to a report from the China Daily.
The winner will be announced on Sept. 17, the report said.
The first winners of the race will also receive a $2 million prize fund, the China Commercial Aviation Association (CCAA) said in a statement.
China has been trying to expand its tourism industry with a nationwide competition to raise the number of tourists in the country by 80 percent in five years.
